Boral Gutter Replacement: The San Diego Owner’s Guide

Boral gutter replacement in San Diego typically runs $18 – $34 per linear foot installed, with most single-story homes landing between $900 and $2,400 total depending on footage, accessibility, and whether fascia board repair is needed. We stock Boral-compatible aluminum and steel gutter profiles on our trucks and can usually complete a standard replacement in one visit. Most San Diego homeowners discover they need this work after a winter rain, when water starts spilling over the front edge, the gutter pulls away from the fascia, or a seam that held for years finally separates.

Here’s the full picture: which Boral profiles this applies to, what fails and why, what it costs, and whether you should grab a ladder or grab the phone.

Which Boral Models This Applies To

Boral’s gutter and trim line in Southern California is most often found as part of their stone-coated steel and tile roofing systems, where the gutter profile was sold as a matched component. The two profiles we see most in San Diego are the 5-inch K-style in the Boral Canyon and Pacific series, and the larger 6-inch half-round spec’d on some Mission and Villa installations in coastal neighborhoods like Point Loma, La Jolla, and Coronado, where heavier rainfall exposure made the bigger trough necessary.

The compatibility gotcha: Boral gutters were manufactured in several plants over the years, and the profile dimensions shifted slightly between production generations. A 5-inch K-style from a 2005-era Boral installation is not always identical to one from 2015, even if both are labeled as the same size. That’s why we measure the profile in place rather than ordering by label alone. For most San Diego homes we install either OEM-matched profiles when available through our manufacturer relationships, or quality aftermarket equivalents from a handful of domestic fabricators whose tolerances actually line up. If your gutters were part of a Boral roof package installed after 2010, OEM matching is usually possible. Earlier than that, the aftermarket route is often the more honest answer, and it’s what we recommend.

Tilehurst Roofing San Diego is an independent roofing and gutter contractor. We are not affiliated with Boral, but we work with their product lines alongside GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, and four other manufacturers so the replacement actually matches what’s already on your home.

Signs Your Boral Gutter Replacement Is Failing

  • Water spilling over the front lip during rain. In San Diego, this usually means the gutter has lost its pitch over time. Hangers loosen, the run sags in the middle, and water finds the low spot and pours over. The fix requires re-sloping and re-hanging, often with new sections.
  • Gutter pulling away from the fascia board. The sun does real work on wood fascia in San Diego’s dry summers. Once the wood behind the gutter starts to rot or dry-crack, the screws lose their bite and the whole run leans outward. You’ll usually see a gap at the top of the gutter or visible screw heads that weren’t there before.
  • Seam separation at the corners or mid-run joints. Boral gutter seams are sealed at the factory or during installation, and the sealant eventually breaks down. This shows up as a steady drip pattern on the concrete or visible staining on stucco below the seam. A separated seam is a direct path for water into your fascia and soffit.
  • Rust blooms at end caps or downspout outlets. Even in San Diego’s relatively dry climate, winter moisture and morning marine layer condensation sit in low spots. Galvanized steel sections will eventually show orange staining at the end caps first. Once rust has eaten through, patching buys you a season, not a decade.
  • Downspouts running dry while the gutter overflows. This means debris or a collapsed internal section is blocking flow somewhere between the drop outlet and the ground. In Boral systems, the narrow-mouth outlet designs from certain years were especially prone to clogging with shingle granules from stone-coated steel roofs.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For San Diego homes, Boral-compatible gutter replacement in standard 5-inch K-style aluminum runs $18 – $24 per linear foot installed. The 6-inch half-round profile runs higher, $26 – $34 per linear foot. A typical 1,600-square-foot single-story home needs 140 to 180 linear feet, putting most jobs between $2,500 and $4,300 including downspouts and fasteners.

What drives the range: single-story versus two-story access, whether your fascia board needs replacement sections, how many downspouts are involved, and whether we’re matching a Boral profile that requires a custom fabrication order versus an off-the-shelf extrusion. Every estimate includes removal and haul-off of the old gutters, new hangers and hardware, all downspout connections, and cleanup. You get a written price before any work starts, a written guarantee on the installation, and the crew comes back at no charge inside the guarantee period if anything fails. That’s the Kingswell Way, and it’s not a premium add-on. Greg Holloway has spent years on San Diego roofs, from bungalows near Balboa Park to larger homes out in Santee, and the rule is the same on every single job: you’ll know the price before we touch your roof.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely do your own visual inspection: walk the perimeter, look for sagging sections, check the end caps for rust, and run a hose along the roof edge on a dry day to see where water exits. That tells you a lot. What we don’t recommend is replacing gutter runs yourself on a two-story home. The work means working from a ladder while handling long metal sections that catch wind and shift on you, and second-story San Diego homes tied to canyon grades or elevated lots make it worse. A fall from even a first-floor eave level is a hospital trip.

If your gutters are on a single-story ranch house and you’re comfortable with a ladder, a mid-run section replacement is doable with the right profile. But matching the Boral profile precisely, re-pitching an entire run, and rebuilding downspout connections is the part where most homeowner jobs end poorly. If you’d rather not guess, call (619) 393-3877 and we’ll come out, measure what’s there, and hand you a written price.
