Boral Roofing Company in San Diego: What to Know First
We’re an independent Boral service provider in San Diego, and we repair and replace Boral roofing on homes throughout the county. Most Boral repairs in San Diego take one visit, with a written price in your hands before any work starts. You’ll know the price before we touch your roof.
If you own a Boral roof and need a roofing company that actually answers the phone, you’ve found the right page. This guide covers the failure modes we see most often on Boral products in San Diego’s climate, what repairs genuinely cost, and how our process works from the first call to the final inspection. Greg Holloway, owner of Tilehurst Roofing San Diego, has worked on Boral systems from Point Loma to Santee. Call (619) 393-3877 to get a free estimate on your Boral repair or replacement.
How Boral Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Boral makes a solid product, but San Diego’s combination of intense UV exposure, salt air near the coast, and temperature swings between inland valleys and the marine layer creates specific failure patterns. Here’s what we actually find on Boral jobs:
- Boral Concrete Tile (BoralTile line) – underlayment failure before tile failure. The tile itself can last 50 years, but the felt or synthetic underlayment beneath it breaks down decades sooner. In neighborhoods like Clairemont and Tierrasanta, we regularly see tiles that look fine from the street while the underlayment underneath has turned to dust. The fix is a tile lift-and-relay: we remove the tile, replace the underlayment, and reset the same tile if it’s still sound. You don’t need new tile just because the paper underneath gave out.
- Boral Steel Roofing (Boral Steel line) – fastener back-out at laps. Steel expands and contracts with San Diego’s inland heat swings, especially in places like Santee or El Cajon where summer afternoons hit triple digits. Over time, fasteners at panel laps can back out slightly, creating small gaps where wind-driven rain gets in. We re-secure laps with the correct fasteners and reseal with a urethane sealant rated for metal-on-metal contact.
- Boral Clay Tile (US Tile by Boral) – broken corners from foot traffic. Clay tile is brittle by design. When a previous contractor walked the roof without proper walk boards, or when a tree branch dropped onto a corner, you get cracked or spalled tile edges. Water then sits against the crack and works its way into the underlayment. We replace individual broken tiles when color match allows, or do a sectional replacement with a close-match blend when the original color is no longer manufactured.
- Ridge cap failures on Boral tile systems. The ridge cap mortar or cap nails are the most common leak point on any tile roof, Boral included. In San Diego’s dry season, mortar can shrink and crack away from the ridge beam. We remove the old cap, inspect the ridge board, and reset the cap with proper fastening and a flexible sealant that moves with the house.
- Boral Stone-coated Steel (Boral Steel line) – valley flashing corrosion near the coast. Homes in Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, and La Jolla see salt-air corrosion on valley flashings years before anything else fails on the roof. The stone coating on the panels holds up well, but galvanized flashings at valleys and penetrations dissolve in salt air. We replace them with aluminum or stainless flashing and re-bed the valley, which typically adds 15 to 20 years of life to that section.

Our Boral Roofing Company Process
Every Boral job we do in San Diego follows the same six steps, whether it’s a two-hour repair or a full replacement. The Kingswell Way is simple: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, and come back if it fails.
- 1
Call and diagnose. You call (619) 393-3877, a live person answers, and we schedule a time that actually works. Greg or a lead tech walks the roof and listens to what you’ve seen: stains, drips, missing tile, wind noise.
- 2
Written price before any work. We hand you a line-item written quote before anyone touches a ladder. No phone call later with “we found additional issues.” If we find hidden damage once the roof is open, we stop and talk to you first. The written price is the price.
- 3
Parts decision: OEM vs quality aftermarket. For Boral tile, we use genuine Boral tile when it’s available and color-stable. When the line is discontinued, we source close-match aftermarket tile from our San Diego suppliers and show you samples before we install. For underlayment and flashings, we use premium aftermarket products that meet or exceed Boral’s original spec.
- 4
The repair or replacement. We protect the work area, remove only what needs removing, and do the work the way the manufacturer’s installation manual specifies. On tile jobs, that means proper walk boards to protect the tile we’re not replacing. On metal, that means the right fasteners and sealants, not whatever is in the truck.
- 5
Test and inspect. We run water on the repaired area and check the underside where accessible. Then we walk the whole roof once more to make sure the problem is solved and nothing adjacent was disturbed.
- 6
Written guarantee before the crew leaves. You get the guarantee in your hand before the truck pulls away. If that repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s written on every invoice.

AfterWhat Boral Roofing Company Costs in San Diego
Here are realistic price ranges for common Boral jobs in San Diego, based on the work we’ve done across the county:
- Individual Boral tile replacement: $45 – $90 per tile, depending on access and whether we can match the existing color or need to blend.
- Tile lift-and-relay for underlayment replacement (sectional): $1,800 – $4,500 for a typical 300 – 600 square foot section, including underlayment and re-bedding the tile.
- Valley flashing replacement on Boral steel or tile: $600 – $1,500 per valley, depending on length and the flashing material required.
- Ridge cap re-bed and reset: $35 – $60 per linear foot.
- Full Boral tile roof replacement: $18,000 – $35,000 for a typical 1,800 – 2,400 square foot San Diego home, depending on tile profile, underlayment choice, and roof complexity.
What moves the price most is access: a two-story home in Mission Hills with a steep pitch costs more to work on than a single-story in Santee. Underlayment choice matters too, with synthetic underlayment running about 20 – 30% more than felt but lasting significantly longer. Call (619) 393-3877 for an exact quote on your roof. Estimates are free, and the written price is what you pay.
Why San Diego Homeowners Call Tilehurst Roofing San Diego for Boral Work
Most of our Boral customers came to us after another roofing company let them down. Maybe the crew never showed. Maybe the price changed at the door. Maybe the repair failed within a month and nobody answered the phone when they called back.
We built Tilehurst Roofing San Diego to be the opposite of that. We’re part of the Kingswell family of roofing companies, founded in 2000, and every location operates under the Kingswell Guarantee: written price before any work, written guarantee on every repair, and a free second visit if the repair fails inside the guarantee period. Our techs are background-checked and uniformed, so you know exactly who is on your roof. And while Boral is our focus on this page, we also work with GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed systems, so if your home has a mixed roof, we can handle the whole thing in one visit. A live person answers our phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
FAQs
Yes, in most cases. Boral concrete and clay tile lines have specific color names, and we keep current color charts from our San Diego suppliers. If your tile is a discontinued color, we source close-match blends and show you samples before installation. Call (619) 393-3877 and we’ll identify your tile profile and color.
Generally, no. Most Boral roof warranties cover the tile material itself, not the installation. Using quality aftermarket underlayment, fasteners, or flashing does not void the material warranty, and in many cases we recommend non-Boral underlayment because it outperforms the original felt. We’ll explain the trade-offs on your specific roof before you decide.
Common Boral tile profiles are typically available from our San Diego suppliers within one to three business days. Discontinued or specialty profiles may take a week or more to source. We’ll tell you the lead time before we quote the job, so you’re never waiting without knowing why. Call (619) 393-3877 and we’ll check availability while you’re on the phone.
It depends on the underlayment, not the tile. If your Boral tile is in good shape but the underlayment has failed, a lift-and-relay repair can add 20 to 30 years of life for a fraction of a full replacement cost. If the tile is cracked, spalled, or loosening across much of the roof, replacement makes more sense. We’ll give you an honest assessment either way, with a written price for both options if you want to compare.
Yes. Every repair comes with a written guarantee, delivered before the crew leaves. If the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we return at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. That’s not a verbal promise. It’s in writing on your invoice.
