Tamko Shingle Repair: The San Diego Owner’s Guide
Tamko shingle repair in San Diego typically runs $425 to $1,150 for a standard repair of 10 to 30 shingles, including materials, labor, and debris removal. We stock Tamko-compatible shingles on our trucks, so most repairs happen same-day once we’ve confirmed your shingle color and series. Most San Diego homeowners discover they have a problem after a winter Santa Ana wind event lifts a few shingles, or when they spot granule buildup in their gutters after a heavy rain. The sun here breaks down the adhesive seal on shingles faster than almost anywhere else in the country, which means a 15-year-old Tamko roof in San Diego often has the wear characteristics of a 25-year-old roof in Seattle.
You’ll know the price before we touch your roof. That’s the rule, and it applies whether we’re replacing three shingles or thirty.
Which Tamko Models This Applies To
The most common Tamko shingles we repair in San Diego are the Heritage series, specifically Heritage 30 and Heritage 50 architectural shingles. We also work frequently with Tamko’s Titan XT and Elite Glass-Seal lines, which are more common on newer homes in East County developments. The compatibility gotcha with Tamko is this: the Heritage line has been produced in different regional plants, and the granule color blend can vary slightly by manufacturing run. If you have a shingle bundle label, photograph it. The run code on that label lets us match the color more accurately than any sample board.
For older Tamko roofs, we often recommend OEM-match first. Tamko’s color consistency between plants is good, but not perfect, and a visible color mismatch on a south-facing San Diego slope ages badly under direct sun. That said, there are quality aftermarket matches for common colors like Weathered Wood and Antique Slate at a 20 to 30 percent lower material cost. We’ll show you both options with real samples on your roof before we quote anything. Greg Holloway has handled enough Tamko color-matches in San Diego to know that matching under flat light at the shop means nothing; the real test is how it reads at 4 p.m. on your actual roof pitch.

Signs Your Tamko Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Lifted or flapping shingle tabs: The adhesive seal strip has given up. In San Diego, this usually happens on west- and south-facing slopes where afternoon heat has softened and re-hardened the sealant too many times. You’ll see it first near the rake edges, where wind gets underneath the shingle more easily.
- Granule loss visible in gutters or downspout splash blocks: Tamko shingles shed granules over time, but when you start seeing a half-inch of granules in the gutter every month, the asphalt layer is degrading. This is not just cosmetic; granule loss exposes the mat, and UV starts breaking down the shingle itself.
- Cupping or curling at shingle corners: This is a moisture-absorption failure, often from poor attic ventilation. In San Diego’s coastal zones, the daily fog cycle pushes moisture into the attic, and without proper ridge and soffit ventilation, that moisture traps in the fiberglass mat and curls the shingle corners upward.
- Bare spots where shingle tabs used to be: Wind has completely torn the tab off the nail line. This is more urgent than a lifted shingle, because now your underlayment and decking are exposed. In a San Diego winter rain, even a 2-square-foot bare spot lets water through to the sheathing.
- Fiberglass matting showing through in patches: The protective granule surface has worn entirely away. This means the shingle’s structural layer is compromised and it is no longer waterproof. We see this most often on flat sections or low-pitch areas of San Diego homes, like enclosed patios and carports.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Tamko shingle repair in San Diego costs, parts and labor included:
- 10 shingles or fewer: $425 to $625. This covers a small wind-damaged section or a localized leak repair.
- 11 to 30 shingles: $600 to $1,150. This typically includes a full slope section repair with new underlayment at the repair zone.
- 30-plus shingles or multiple slopes: $1,100 to $2,400. At this point, we’re talking about a partial roof re-shingle, and we’ll price it as such with a written line-item quote, not a handshake estimate.
Every price includes the shingles, replacement underlayment if needed, new nails (we use ring-shank hot-dipped galvanized on every Tamko repair, no exceptions), disposal of old material, and a written guarantee delivered before we leave your driveway. If the repair fails inside the guarantee period, Tilehurst returns at no charge. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the full year after the job, which matters in San Diego where a repair done in July can fail the following January if the adhesive never cured properly. Material options for any Tamko repair span seven manufacturers (GAF, CertainTeed, Owens Corning, IKO, Atlas, Tamko, and Boral), so if your Tamko color is discontinued, you won’t be stuck with a mismatch.
DIY or Call Us?
There are a few things you can safely check before calling a roofer. Look at your gutters from the ground, check for granule buildup. Take photos of any visible shingle lifting from a ladder against the wall, not from walking the roof. Note which slope faces the damage. That all helps us give you a faster preliminary number over the phone.
What you shouldn’t do is walk a San Diego shingle roof in summer. The surface temperature on a south-facing slope in August can hit 150 degrees, the shingles are brittle, and the adhesive sealant is soft. A single misstep can tear tabs off undamaged shingles and turn a $500 repair into a $2,000 re-slope. And working at height without the right ladder setup and safety gear is a risk that isn’t worth a few hundred dollars of repair savings. Call (619) 393-3877 and we’ll send a background-checked, uniformed technician with a written price in hand before any work starts.
FAQs
In San Diego’s climate, a Tamko Heritage 30 shingle typically gives you 15 to 20 years of usable life before repairs stop making sense, not the 30-year warranty the name suggests. The combination of year-round UV exposure, Santa Ana wind cycles, and marine-layer moisture near the coast accelerates wear. Inland areas like Santee or Lakeside see faster granule loss from heat; coastal areas like Point Loma see more moisture-related cupping.
A single shingle can absolutely be repaired, especially if the damage is localized to one or two tabs from wind or debris impact. We’ll pull the damaged shingle, inspect the underlayment beneath, and seal in a new one using roof cement and matched nails. Call (619) 393-3877 if you want us to look at photos first; sometimes a single shingle tells us the real problem is a failed row above it.
Most Tamko shingle repairs in San Diego take 2 to 4 hours from setup to cleanup, assuming we have your shingle matched and on the truck. Larger repairs of 30-plus shingles or multiple slopes can take a full day. We’ll give you a time window when we schedule, and a live person answers our phone at (619) 393-3877 24 hours a day if you need to check on our arrival.
We stock common Tamko colors on our trucks, including Weathered Wood, Antique Slate, Natural Timber, and Black Walnut. If your shingle is a less common color or a discontinued run, we’ll source it same-week from our San Diego suppliers and confirm the match before we schedule. You don’t need to order anything yourself.
